Bc. Matouš Klíma, student učitelství pro střední školy anglického a českého jazyka na Filozofické fakultě JU, reportuje ze své pracovní učitelské stáže na České škole v Dublinu.

Možností, kam vyjet na pracovní stáže, je na naší fakultě skutečně nepřeberné množství, za což patří převážně vedení veliký dík. Svou pracovní stáž jsem ale toužil podniknout v anglicky mluvící zemi, která by navíc nebyla až příliš vzdálená od ČR. Anglie v tomto ohledu nepřichází de facto v úvahu, jelikož se kvůli Brexitu studenti potýkají s přehnanou byrokracií a mnohdy prakticky znemožněním se výjezdu do této země zúčastnit. Mou volbou se tedy stalo Irsko, a to konkrétně Česká škola v Dublinu.

Komunikace se zřizovateli školy byla příjemná, efektivní a velice vstřícná. Z tohoto důvodu mohu svým kolegům tuto organizaci jedině doporučit.

Stáž spočívala ve výuce českého jazyka a dalších předmětů (dějepis, občanská nauka, zeměpis …) vždy o sobotách. Během mojí stáže se naplnily kapacity všech tříd, tedy od 1. až do 9. třídy. Jakožto češtinář jsem dostal na starosti výuku českého jazyka a literatury. Mou výsadní profilací se pak stala výuka slohu, což bylo podmínkou pro přijetí. Záleží ovšem na každém žadateli a na jeho schopnostech a preferencích organizace.

Každou sobotu se konala celodenní výuka v komunitním centru mládeže, kam rodiče přivezli své děti. Abychom porozuměli diverzifikaci žáků, je třeba si nejdříve říci, proč vlastně Česká škola v Dublinu vznikla. Rodiče dětí jsou většinou Češi žijící a pracující v Irsku, kteří chtějí, aby jejich děti uměly jejich rodný jazyk. Nemají totiž jinak šanci se mu naučit. Chodí do irských škol, mají irské kamarády. Dalo by se tedy říci, že v mnohých případech, přestože jsou rodiče Češi, bývá rodným jazykem dětí angličtina. Menší procento žáků je pak z bilingvních rodin.

Ve dvouhodinových blocích tak žáci vystřídají výuku češtiny a reálií, pod kterými si představme dějepis, zeměpis a občanskou nauku. V tomto ohledu musím ocenit volnost, jakou jsme jako lektoři dostávali. Vedení vybraným lektorům důvěřuje a vychází maximálně vstříc. Součástí výuky pak byly i přednášky s osobnostmi, které mají české kořeny, nebo jakkoli jinak sympatizují s Českou republikou.

Stáž bych hodnotil z veliké části kladně. Pro ty z nás, kteří to s učitelským povoláním myslí vážně, bych pravděpodobně nenašel lepší „školu života“. Dokázat učit děti, které sice mnohdy česky umí, o gramatice a literatuře však nemají ani ponětí, je silná zkouška. Musíme si navíc uvědomit, že Irsko je v oblasti školství mnohem dále než ČR. Od toho se také odvíjí chování žáků během hodin. Zjednodušeně řečeno, na frontální výuku rovnou zapomeňme. Jedinou nevýhodou je pak opravdu pouze fakt, že výuka probíhá pouze o sobotách. Stáž je neplacená, proto si po zbytek týdne zájemci musí najít práci. Mnoho kolegyň tuto situaci řeší formou au pair. Mohu pouze doporučit. Muži mají výběr v tomto ohledu výrazně omezený. Irsko navíc patří mezi země, které jsou pro nás, Čechy, opravdu drahé. Ze stipendia si většinou studenti nezaplatí ani nájem.

Bez potřeby jakéhokoli pochlebování naší fakultě musím zdůraznit, že za to, že se mnou byli zřizovatelé České školy v Dublinu spokojení, dávám kredit právě výuce metodických a didaktických předmětů na JU. Ověřil jsem si, že se během studia věnujeme problematice, která je v moderním vzdělávání relevantní a dokáže učiteli usnadnit práci, mnohdy dostat z žáků skutečné maximum. Jak jsem již řekl, stáž v České škole Dublin otestuje naše odhodlání stát se pedagogem. Můžu ale s klidem říci, že to stojí za to. Já mám o svém povolání jasno.

We are pleased to share the successful conclusion of the TEFE project (ID 2020-1-CZ01-KA203-078201), a collaborative initiative led by the University of South Bohemia (USB) and involving esteemed partner universities: Aston University, Birmingham (UK), Comenius University in Bratislava (SK), Jagiellonian University in Krakow (PL), Public University of Navarra, Pamplona (SP), and University of Passau (GE). The final assessment report, published by the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research, highlighted the positive outcomes and successful achievement of project objectives. Coordinated by USB, the project produced valuable materials and intellectual outputs, showcasing the collective dedication of the participating universities.

In light of these achievements, we introduce TEFE A+, the successor project, carried out as part of the Erasmus+ Cooperative Partnership scheme. TEFE A+ aims to implement the TEFE Framework for the Internationalisation of Teaching Practice and Employability, furthering the internationalisation of English teachers' education. We invite students, school mentors, and other educational stakeholders to join us in this initiative. Your support is crucial in making teaching practice truly international and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Summer School of Linguistics se letos uskuteční na Filozofické fakultě Jihočeské univerzity.

Filozofická fakulta JU bude mezi 12. a 21. srpnem 2022 hostit Letní školu lingvistiky, již pravidelně pořádá Filozofická fakulta Univerzity Karlovy. Mezinárodní letní škola je určena všem studentům, kteří mají zájem o lingvistický výzkum. Nabídne přednášky a workshopy zaměřené především na osvojování jazyka, psycholingvistiku, typologii a jazykový kontakt, korpusovou lingvistiku, neurolingvistiku či fonetiku. Celý program se uskuteční v angličtině.

The Department of English Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice is set to welcome delegates from four other European universities to an intensive study programme as part of the Teachers of English for Future Europe. (TEFE) initiative. The programme will run from the 19th to the 28th September and will see 45 delegates composed of student teachers, teacher trainers and educators who come together to explore how both the Czech Republic is working towards both mobility and employability of future teachers of English through the internalisation of teaching practice.

The programme is funded via the European Union Erasmus + Strategic Partnership Programme and the successful project application (€285,199) was led by staff from the Faculty of Arts, South Bohemia. Mgr. Helena Lohrová, Ph.D. one of the project leaders commented, “This is a really exciting and proud moment for the university to be involved in such an auspicious project. Colleagues from Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Spain will join us in person, and the UK will contribute virtually to explore how the internationalisation of teaching practice can impact on both teacher mobility and employability for new teachers of English. It has been a challenging first year due to Covid and tested our technical skills to the limit as all work was carried out remotely online in a virtual setting. Everyone has worked really hard to make this study programme happen. All delegates are duel vaccinated and undertaking a strict testing regime, meeting all EU and Czech protocols to ensure the safety of all who are involved in the programme. Finally, building on our new technology skills we have made the decision to deliver a parallel virtual conference to widen the participation of other teachers and students”.

The welcome address on Monday 20/09 will be presented by Vice-rector for International Relations, doc. PaedDr. Radka Závodská, Ph.D., and doc. PhDr. Ondřej Pešek, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Arts. This will be followed by a keynote speech delivered by Ing. Veronika Schmidtová of the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Czech Republic on the internationalisation of Czech higher education. In the afternoon, the participants will also be welcomed by the Deputy Mayor, Ing. Viktor VOJTKO, Ph.D., during their visit to the Town Hall.

On Friday 24/09 another guest speaker, doc. Natalia Orlova, CSc., will address the ISP01 event regarding the theme of developing English teachers’ competences in an international context, giving a talk on “The framework of integrating EPOSTL into student-teacher education”.

As part of the Intensive Study Programme, delegates will attend a mix of lectures and workshops focusing on internationalisation, mobility and employability. All partners will be discussing how these key strategies are enacted in their home universities and in how these can be replicated in the partner institutions.

In addition, delegates will work to develop and use the web-based collaborative platform (COIL) which they will use to continue working with their peer groups and contributing to the overall direction of the project. This platform will also facilitate interaction and joint working with virtual participants.

A key input will be to provide participants with a set of self-evaluation and analytical tools to help students understand and implement the approaches needed to develop their own professional skills as teachers.

Above all, delegates will have the unique opportunity to attend English classes at partner schools in České Budějovice. There they will observe Czech teachers in action and reflect on this in a series of planned workshops.

The participants will also experience the beauty of the region by visiting the state castle in Český Krumlov and taste the famous České Budějovice beer.

The experience gained will certainly be valued not only in the preparation of the project outputs, but especially in the future professional life of the ISP01 student participants.

In September 2022, the TEFE consortium, together with 29 future teachers of English, met at the University of Passau to take another step towards the internationalisation of teacher education and practice. Karolína Dvořáková, Anna Chourová, Klára Nikitínská, Soňa Urbánková, Klapová Vendula, Karolína Volfová, Dr Alena Prošková and Dr Helena Lohrová represented the Faculty of Arts, University of South Bohemia. Glimpses from a week of intensive trans-national collaboration and observation of teaching in selected Bavarian schools have been recorded in a short TEFE video: YouTube.

The TEFE project (2020-1-CZ01-KA203-078201) funded by the EU Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships programme started its third year of strategic cooperation in September 2022. The TEFE consortium is formed of 6 European universities: Aston University (UK), Comenius University in Bratislava (SK), Jagiellonian University in Krakow (PL), Public University of Navarra (SP), University of Passau (GE) and University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (CZ). The project which centres on the internationalisation of teaching practice is managed by the Faculty of Arts, the University of South Bohemia and is integral to the Faculty's initiative to internationalise teacher education.

Teacher education study programmes for candidates interested in teaching at secondary and high schools offered by the Faculty of Arts, University of South Bohemia is enjoying an increasing number of applicants every year. Students can specialise in subject areas including the English, German, French, Spanish, Italian languages, Czech language and literature and History. The internationalisation of studies, and especially of teaching practice, is currently a challenge that cannot be ignored in the education of future teachers. This approach provides future teachers with international professional experience which especially language teachers cannot do without.

As Dr Alena Prošková, a subject didactics teacher for languages at the Faculty of Arts and one of the coordinators of the TEFE project, puts it: “Modern teacher education programmes must equip the new generation of future teachers with the skills that will enable them to deliver education at a European level. This, however, requires that students can learn about European education as part of their studies and are enabled to gain practical professional experience not only from local schools they perhaps attended themselves, but also from schools across the EU. If we succeed in internationalising teaching practice, we will take a huge step towards the personal and professional development of the new generation of student teachers and how they can apply themselves in the job market.

Equally valuable for future teachers will be the personal contacts and friendships with student teachers from the partner countries that the TEFE project is creating. After entering practice, the graduates will certainly use these contacts to organise their own international projects in the schools where they will be working. This way they will contribute to the development of the internationalisation of studies at the level of secondary or primary education.

From the point of view of academics who also actively participate in international training seminars and workshops, TEFE is a unique opportunity to compare the content and structure of teacher education programmes. This allows education professionals to discuss the current challenges of teacher education, especially in relation to the reforms currently underway in the partner countries. The visit to Passau gave us an insight into the functioning model of teacher education that is already in place, which mirrors the key points set out in the reform of undergraduate education formulated in the framework of the Ministry of Education and Science's Strategy 2030+. This is something we aim for and may perhaps reach within the next five or ten years.”

What lies ahead for TEFE:

The academic year 2022–2023 is the third and final year for the TEFE project, and in terms of "what's next" it is also a turning point in the sense of how the consortium will build upon what they have started. At the end of 2023, the TEFE consortium will publish a methodology for the internationalisation of teaching practice, which will be followed by an implementation phase. In the meantime, several events await the participants and supporters of the project to further shape, discuss, present and, above all, put the TEFE agenda into practice. In January 2023, TEFE is heading to Aston University (UK). In April, the next Intensive Study Programme will take place at Jagiellonian University in Krakow (PL), followed by a presentation of the project in the panel discussion "English Language Teacher Competences" at the 15th International April Confe   rence: Humanity/Humanities. At the prestigious Jagiellonian University, TEFE will subsequently conclude with a project dissemination conference for English language teachers and those interested in teaching the English language.

Ústavu anglistiky Filozofické fakulty JU se podařilo získat významný grant ve výši 250 000 eurpro realizaci projektu TEFE A+"Teachers of English for a Future Europe – Putting the Internationalisation of Teaching Practice into Action". Projektem TEFE A+ FF JU naváže na poslední tři roky mezinárodní spolupráce TEFE konsorcia evropských univerzit a společně budou usilovat o uvedení TEFE metodiky do praxe: https://tefe.online. 

Projekt TEFE A+ je zaměřený na internacionalizaci učitelských praxí. Cílem projektu je, aby profesionalita učitelů anglického jazyka byla přenositelná a zároveň na co možná nejvyšší úrovni, neboť právě učitelé, kteří mají potenciálně významný vliv na životy ostatních, jsou nositeli společenské změny.  Proto by moderní učitelé měli být vybaveni znalostmi, dovednostmi a kompetencemi potřebnými k podpoře jazykového vzdělávání, kritického myšlení, porozumění napříč sociálním spektrem a k udržení demokratických hodnot. Součástí této přípravy je i to, že jim již od počátku jejich učitelského vzdělávání bude poskytnuta široká škála pozitivních zkušeností s učitelskou praxí v reálném mezinárodním prostředí.

Projekt TEFE A+ bude během následujících tří let realizovat konsorcium šesti evropských univerzit:

4. Veřejná univerzita Navarra (UPNA), Španělsko

Jihočeská univerzita bude společně s Univerzitou Komenského pokračovat v rozvíjení kompetencí zaměstnatelnosti budoucích učitelů anglického jazyka, a to prostřednictvím kompetenčního rámce TEFE. Pasovská univerzita, jakožto jedna z evropsky významných univerzit v oblasti internacionalizace vzdělávání povede strategický rozvoj internacionalizace učitelských praxí. UPNA se zaměří na digitalizaci metodiky TEFE a jejích nástrojů a na posílení interaktivity platformy TEFE COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning). Univerzita ELTE, projektově nový partner, bude řídit pilotáž TEFE metodiky a výukových nástrojů. Aston University, britský partner s vědeckými aktivitami orientovanými na aplikovaný výzkum, povede evaluaci a vyhodnocování projektových činností, čímž bude v rámci konsorcia řídit kvalitu projektových výstupů. Každý z partnerů přináší do projektu TEFE A+ jedinečný soubor dovedností a zdrojů, čímž obohacuje jeho potenciální dopad a význam v oblasti vzdělávání. Ústav anglistiky FF JU bude v projektu zastávat klíčovou roli koordinátora projektu. Projektový tým tvoří Dr. Alena Prošková (obsahový manažer projektu), Dr. Helena Lohrová (projektová koordinátorka), Dr. Tomáš Jajtner (koordinátor pro vzdělávaní a spolupráci se vzdělávacími institucemi) a Dr. Ivo Petrů (finanční manažer).

Do soutěže pro rok 2023 se přihlásilo nejvíce žadatelů od roku 2014. Projekt TEFE A+ byl jedním z osmi projektů vybraných ze řady 47 žadatelů, tzn. úspěšnost projektů byla 17 %. TEFE konsorcium pro realizaci projektu TEFE A+ získalo nového člena – Univerzitu Eötvöse Loránda (ELTE) v maďarské Budapešti. Jagellonská univerzita v Krakově (Polsko), jeden ze zakládajících partnerů projektu TEFE, se sice do projektu TEFE A+ formálně nezapojí, zůstává však nedílnou součástí konsorcia.

Hlavní myšlenkou projektu TEFE A+ je internacionalizace vzdělávání učitelů, především se zaměřením na praktickou složku učitelských studijních programů. Projekt usiluje o zavedení mezinárodní pedagogické praxe (International Teaching Practice – ITP), vytvoření mezinárodních pedagogických stáží a poskytování podpory mentorům učitelů. Úkolem projektu je také šířit implementaci kompetenčního rámce TEFE. Strategicky se TEFE A+ zaměřuje na nejvyšší úroveň internacionalizace ve vzdělávání učitelů. Tento projekt díky mezinárodnímu partnerství podporuje vzájemně propojené systémy vysokoškolského vzdělávání a má potenciál stimulovat inovativní výukové postupy. Data, která budou během implementace získána mohou poskytnout cenné údaje pro systémová řešení ve vzdělávání a celkově přispět k oblasti vzdělávání budoucích učitelů na evropské úrovni.

Grantový program Partnerství pro spolupráci financovaný EU v rámci programu Erasmus+ podporuje nadnárodní projekty, jejichž cílem je rozvíjet a sdílet inovativní postupy, strategickou spolupráci, podporovat vzdělávání a výměnu zkušeností a dobré praxe v oblasti vysokého školství a odborné přípravy studentů. Konsorcium TEFE tvoří skupina vzdělávacích institucí, organizací a zúčastněných stran v rámci Evropské unie (EU), která se věnuje podpoře a realizaci ITP, mobility a budoucí zaměstnatelnosti učitelů angličtiny. Hlavním cílem konsorcia je poskytovat mezinárodní, na praxi zaměřené příležitosti profesního rozvoje, které vybaví učitele v přípravě na povolání praktickými dovednostmi, znalostmi a kompetencemi, jež jsou nezbytné pro efektivní výuku anglického jazyka. Upřednostňováním trvalého mezinárodního profesního rozvoje si TEFE klade za cíl povýšit profesi učitele angličtiny na respektovanou pozici, zajistit studentům kvalitní vzdělávání a podpořit kontinuální profesní rozvoj učitelů angličtiny v průběhu jejich kariéry. Zakládající konsorcium TEFE, které tvoří Aston University (Velká Británie), Univerzita Komenského v Bratislavě (Slovensko), Jagellonská univerzita (Polsko), The Public University of Navarra (Španělsko), The University of Passau (Německo) a Jihočeská univerzita v Českých Budějovicích (Česká republika), bylo založeno v roce 2020 v rámci projektu strategického partnerství Erasmus+ financovaného EU.

V termínu od 18. do 24. 4. 2023 se v polském Krakově uskuteční v rámci projektu Teachers of English for Future Europe (TEFE) závěrečný Intensive Study Programme Krakow. Na tento ISP pak ve dnech 24. a 25. 4. 2023 naváže diseminační konference (TEFE Dissemination Conference), na které bude Filozofickou fakultu JU prezentovat Mgr. Helena Lohrová, Ph.D., a Mgr. Alena Prošková, Ph.D., společně s dvěma studentkami učitelství pro střední školy oboru anglistika (Bc. Monika Pieglová a Bc. DiS. Monika Benáková).

Studentka Ústavu anglistiky FF JU Tereza Krchová, která se programu TEFE účastní poprvé, přináší v rámci příprav na závěrečný intenzivní studijní program projektu TEFE v Krakově deníkový záznam. Spolu s Terezou Krchovou se ISP03 zúčastní studentky FF JUAneta Dibďáková, Karolína Dvořáková, Dominika Kocmichová, Hana Smolová a Soňa Urbánková:

"Teachers of English for Future Europe je nový program na podporu učitelů z celé Evropy. Projektu se účastní celkem 6 zahraničních univerzit. Jediným cílem ale není pouze rozvíjet učitelské kompetence budoucích pedagogů. Unikátní je to, že se studenti setkávají na společných výjezdech a tvoří projekty, které jim v budoucnu pomohou obohatit vlastní učitelskou praxi. Klíčové je samozřejmě také neustálé využívání anglického jazyka při komunikaci s ostatními studenty i profesory. Vzájemný střet více kultur přináší mnohá překvapení, úskalí i humorné situace, ze kterých se všichni zúčastnění naučí opět něco nového, poznávání kultury je také nedílnou součástí a specifikem projektu TEFE. Studenti mají možnost pozorovat výuku na zahraničních školách, a mohou si tak odnést to nejlepší z každé spolupracující země, a nebo naopak poznat, čeho se během své praxe vyvarovat. Každý budoucí učitel si poskládá svou mozaiku dovedností a schopností, které by v budoucnu rád předával i svým žákům.

Já sama se výjezdu účastním poprvé, proto mohu mluvit pouze o svých očekáváních a představách. Oslovila mě zejména hlavní myšlenka projektu a příležitost vidět, jak funguje školství v jiných zemích, ráda bych si z Krakova odnesla nové nápady, jak obohatit výuku, jak ji zpestřit, abych žáky zaujala a vytrhla je z každodenní rutiny. Očekávám, že si se svými kolegy vyměníme názory na výuku a prodiskutujeme přístupy k žákům a vzájemně si pomůžeme s případnými problémy. Velmi se těším na komunikaci v anglickém jazyce, protože každá příležitost používat jazyk v praxi je k nezaplacení.

A protože mám mezi sebou kolegyně, které se účastnily předchozích výjezdů a byly tak hodné, že mi poskytly fotografie a komentáře k jejich zážitkům s programem TEFE, mohu se podělit i o jejich dojmy a zkušenosti. Myslím, že následující věty a fotografie hovoří samy za sebe."

„Díky účasti v TEFE jsem měla možnost seznámit se s tím, jak funguje školský systém v jiných zemích (Španělsko, Británie, Německo, aj.), měla jsem možnost poznat spoustu zajímavých lidí (nejen studentů, ale i učitelů), se kterými mohu sdílet své zážitky a zkušenosti z dosavadní pedagogické praxe. Účast v TEFE byla a je jedna velká zkušenost.“

„Odnesla jsem si hlavně to, že jsme se třeba dozvěděli, jak funguje školství v jiných zemích a že jsme to mohli mezi sebou porovnat. Pak taky že jsme měli možnost se seznámit s ostatními budoucími učiteli a mohli jsme spolu sdílet různý zkušenosti a zážitky, nebo pohledy na učitelství. Pak taky bylo super že jsme měli možnost se jít podívat na hodiny angličtiny v německých školách, takže jsme mohli třeba porovnat, jak chodí výuka u nás vs u nich.“

„Projekt byl fajn. Moc se mi líbí a do Krakova se velmi těším, možná i proto, že jsem si s Poláky a Slováky rozuměla nejvíc. Bylo to hezké, člověk se něco naučí, trochu se zhodnotí, je supr si povídat i s učiteli z jiných zemí. Je úžasné pozorovat i kulturní rozdíly, některé lidi to může zaskočit či dokonce urazit, já sama mám kombinaci s němčinou, takže jsem v Pasově byla připravena i na jinou kulturu a mohla o ní ostatním něco předat.“

From 18 to 24 April 2023, the Erasmus+ Teachers of English for Future Europe (TEFE): EU mobility and employability through the Internationalisation of Teaching Practice project organised its third training event for student teachers of English. The Intensive Study Programme 3 (ISP3) took place at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, and offered training sessions, workshops, and panel discussions for students from participating universities. These included the Jagiellonian University (Poland), University of South Bohemia (Czech Republic), Comenius University (Slovakia), University of Passau (Germany), Public University of Navarre (Spain), and Aston University (UK). In total, 32 students and 15 academic teachers participated in the event. The main themes of ISP3 were the internationalisation of English language teaching practice, the development of employability skills, and fostering international collaboration through the use of information technology.

ISP3 was preceded by online activities on the TEFE Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) platform. Students had the opportunity to meet and work together in the project's Moodle to complete tasks regarding materials development and reflect on their teaching activities. These tasks also provided a chance for students to virtually meet their international peers before their in-person visit to Krakow.

During ISP3, participants attended workshops that focused on developing their teaching skills and stimulated reflection on the future of teacher education. Importantly, students had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the project's intellectual outputs and shared their feedback.

ISP3 also provided another opportunity for project participants to observe English language classes. After visiting schools in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Spain, TEFE students and teachers observed lessons in primary and secondary schools in Krakow, familiarised themselves with the Polish educational system, and talked to teachers at local schools. Overall, the TEFE ISP3 participants further expanded their international teaching experience.

On 24 and 25 April 2023, the TEFE team organised a project´s dissemination conference with the aim of sharing the project's outcomes with the community of language teachers, teacher mentors, educators, and students. The conference took place in the Auditorium Maximum of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, and familiarised delegates with the project's intellectual outputs, including the TEFE Framework for the Internationalisation of Teaching Practice and Employability, TEFE Toolkit of Diagnostic Tools, and the TEFE COIL platform. Approximately 200 conference delegates, including students and teachers from universities and schools in Krakow (Poland) and abroad, attended the conference. In addition to presenting the project's results, a panel discussion was organised to discuss the prospects of internationalising English language teacher education. The discussion confirmed the openness and willingness of in-service teachers to support the idea of helping students gain international teaching experience and assisting them throughout the process.

Overall, ISP3 and the subsequent dissemination conference marked the conclusion of the third year of the TEFE project, with the project outputs scheduled to be published on the European dissemination platform by 31st October 2023.

Ve dnech 18. až 24. dubna 2023 uspořádal projekt Erasmus+ Teachers of English for Future Europe (TEFE): EU mobility and employability through the Internationalisation of Teaching Practice třetí vzdělávací akci pro studenty učitelství anglického jazyka pro střední školy. Intenzivní studijní program 3 (ISP3) se konal na Jagellonské univerzitě v polském Krakově a nabídl školení, workshopy a panelové diskuse pro studenty ze zúčastněných univerzit. Mezi zúčastněné univerzity patřily Jagellonská univerzita (Polsko), Jihočeská univerzita (Česká republika), Univerzita Komenského (Slovensko), Univerzita Pasov (Německo), Veřejná univerzita Navarra (Španělsko) a Aston University (Velká Británie). Celkem se akce zúčastnilo 32 studentů učitelství anglického jazyka a 15 univerzitních pedagogů. Hlavními tématy ISP3 byla internacionalizace výuky anglického jazyka v praxi, rozvoj dovedností pro uplatnění na trhu práce a podpora mezinárodní spolupráce prostřednictvím využití informačních technologií.

ISP3 předcházely online aktivity na platformě TEFE Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). Studenti měli možnost setkávat se a společně pracovat v projektovém systému Moodle, kde plnili úkoly týkající se tvorby materiálů a reflektovali své výukové aktivity. Tyto úkoly také poskytly studentům možnost se ještě před osobním setkáním v Krakově virtuálně seznámit se svými mezinárodními kolegy.

Během ISP3 se účastníci aktivně zapojili do workshopů zaměřených na rozvoj učitelských dovedností a kompetencí. Dále se seznámili s intelektuálními výstupy projektu, které po dobu uplynulých tří let pomáhali spoluvytvářet a do finálního zpracování těchto výstupů přispěli svoji zpětnou vazbou. Spoluprací v mezinárodních týmech měli tito mladí budoucí učitelé anglického jazyka možnost nejen aplikovat nabyté znalosti, ale především sdíleli a diskutovali o svých studijních a učitelských zkušenostech, formovali své názory a zamýšleli se nad budoucností vzdělávání učitelů.

Stejně tak jako v předchozích TEFE intenzivních studijních programech i ISP3 nabídl všem účastníkům projektu příležitost navštívit výuku na základních a středních školách. Po návštěvě škol v České republice, Německu a Španělsku se tentokrát studenti a učitelé TEFE účastnili náslechů na základních a středních školách v Krakově, seznámili se se systémem vzdělávání a hovořili s učiteli tamních škol. Celkově si tak dále rozšířili svoji pedagogickou náslechovou praxi o mezinárodní zkušenosti.

V přímé návaznosti na vzdělávací program ISP3 uspořádal tým TEFE ve dnech 24. a 25. dubna 2023 mezinárodní diseminační konferenci s cílem seznámit komunitu učitelů jazyků, mentorů, pedagogů a studentů s výsledky projektu Teachers of English for Future Europe (TEFE). Konference se konala v aule Auditorium Maximum Jagellonské univerzity v polském Krakově a seznámila delegáty s intelektuálními výstupy projektu, včetně Rámce TEFE pro internacionalizaci pedagogické praxe a zaměstnatelnosti, sady diagnostických nástrojů TEFE a platformy TEFE COIL. Konference se zúčastnilo přibližně 200 delegátů, včetně studentů a učitelů z univerzit a škol v Krakově (Polsko) i ze zahraničí. Kromě prezentace výstupů projektu byla uspořádána panelová diskuse, na které se hovořilo o perspektivách internacionalizace vzdělávání učitelů anglického jazyka. Diskuse potvrdila otevřenost a ochotu učitelů v praxi podpořit myšlenku pomoci studentům získat mezinárodní učitelské zkušenosti a pomáhat jim v průběhu celého procesu.

ISP3 a následná diseminační konference byly úspěšným završením třetího roku projektu TEFE. Dalším krokem bude zveřejnění výstupů projektu na evropské diseminační platforměs termínem do 31. října 2023.

Společný workshop výzkumného centra FF JU Teorie, metody a modely v současném jazykovědném výzkumu a Ústavu formální a aplikované lingvistiky MFF UK.

1. 12. 2022 proběhl na FF JU společný workshop „Textové struktury a diskurzní vztahy“ Výzkumného centra FF JU a Ústavu formální a aplikované lingvistiky MFF UK. Přednášející se ve svých vystoupeních zaměřili na otázky globálních textových struktur a jejich vztahu k lokálním jevům, na analýzu textových konektorů a na teoretická východiska celostních přístupů k analýze jazyka a textu. S ohledem na zaměření obou pracovišť byla reflektována i role komputačních nástrojů pro výklad textových a diskurzních jevů.

Na úvod bylo představeno nové tematické číslo časopisu Écho des études romanes: „Linguistique textuelle – linguistique de corpus“, na kterém se podíleli francouzští a čeští autoři (https://www.eer.cz/current_issue.php). Mezi českými autory figurují zástupci obou pracovišť, která tento společný workshop pořádala (Výzkumné centrum FF JU a Ústav formální a aplikované lingvistiky MFF UK).

The Erasmus+ project Teachers of English for Future Europe (TEFE) has brought together five key institutions from across the EU together with a UK partner, all of whom are committed to the internationalisation of English teachers in Europe. A central aspect of the 3-year mobility and employability project is the opportunity for participating students and their teachers to visit partner institutions for Intensive Study Programmes (ISP) to learn about different approaches to English language teacher education in other countries The first ISP was hosted by the University of South Bohemia in the Czech Republic in September 2021; the first instalment of the second ISP was hosted by the University of Passau at the end of March 2022.

Over the course of four days from 28 March to 1 April 2022, Passau University’s Teacher Education Center and the Professorship for American Studies/Cultural and Media Studies hosted more than 40 participants online via Zoom—due to the ongoing pandemic—to explore the topics of intercultural competence, the recognition process of teaching in the EU, and internationalisation, an area in which the University of Passau specialises. As the University of Passau Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity Professor Christina Hansen emphasised in her welcome to participants, internationalisation in teacher education requires particular attention and support as it is integral to how European education will be delivered and sustained in the future.

Day 1 of the ISP continued with warm welcomes from members of various departments, after which student participants had the opportunity to get to know each other in transnational groups, i.e., breakout rooms. In their session, Helena Lohrová Mgr. Ph.D. and Alena Prošková Mgr. Ph.D. from the University of South Bohemia then worked together with the students to develop ideas for various internationalisation measures. As students reflected on and compared their own international experiences, all agreed that intercultural communicative competences are essential not only for their own personal development but also to be be a good teacher. On Day 2, Prof. Karsten Fitz of Passau’s Professorship for American Studies began the day with his keynote, emphasizing the implications of being aware, or unaware, of cultural meanings. Working with the genre of photography, Fitz analysed the practice of staging visual narratives in American political culture to establish important interconnections between the private and the public lives of US presidents. The contribution clearly illustrated the need for intercultural competence in English teacher education, especially when these motifs are adopted for effect by German and other European politicians, thus casting a critical view on “the Americanization of European political culture, which is never a one-way street.” The next session shifted the focus from personal development to employability in an international context. In her extensive and detailed keynote, Anastasia Kamarauli explained the complex process of international recognition of teaching degrees and how, despite the stipulated freedom of movement within EU, it is currently a major obstacle to solving the teacher shortage in EU countries.  Kamarauli’s talk, as well as the subsequent discussion with participants, provided much needed clarity on processes and procedures that can be both daunting and overwhelming. Day 2 wrapped up with a panel discussion and Q&A on international career opportunities with five English language teachers who studied or lived in one EU country but now teach—or study English language teaching—in another.

The focus of the final two days of the ISP shifted from the wider, EU perspective to the regional or local, as Dr Hans Stefan Fuchs provided insight into Bavaria’s school and education system. In his talk, he emphasised the connections between EU policies for education and the need for more equivalent systems. Subsequently, students worked on a comparative view of their respective education systems in transnational groups. Later, in national groups, each set of university students began work on a scientific poster depicting the education system in their own country. The completed posters will be foundational to the next instalment of this ISP to be hosted live in Passau in September 2022 where each will be presented.

Despite being split in two and forced online, TEFE’s second Intensive Study Programme was a successful and enriching experience for all who participated. “I would like to thank the University of Passau for organising four very intensive and productive working days. In collaboration with educational experts, teacher educators and students we were able to progress our work on the TEFE Internationalisation and Employability frameworks that we plan to adopt across the consortium as an integral component of modern teacher education,” TEFE project manager Lohrová confirmed after the event. Students had the opportunity to learn more about internationalisation and intercultural competence, to understand future employment opportunities, and to meet fellow teaching students from all over Europe. As student participant Margareta Wagener (UP) commented, “I learned how much there is still to do in education on our way to a united Europe and that all of us have to put our minds together to reach this goal. Our future is decided today.” The TEFE project advocates and provides opportunities for that better future.

The TEFE A+ BIP programme, designed as a preparatory course for international teaching practice of future English language teachers, followed the methodology of the TEFE Consortium – TEFE Framework for the Internationalisation of Teaching Practice and Employability. This framework was published last year by Comenius University Bratislava and is available at https://tefe.onlineand also in the online catalogue of the Slovak National Library TEFE Framework for the Internationalisation of Teaching Practice and Employability 2020-2023 (uniba.sk). Educators from six partner universities of the TEFE consortium led the training of TEFE A+ BIP participants. On behalf of the Faculty of Arts, University of South Bohemia, the programme was organised by the Department of English Studies.

The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) represents an innovative approach within the Erasmus+ programme, offering international short-term intensive courses with innovative teaching elements that combine physical and virtual learning. A prerequisite for BIP programmes is the involvement of a minimum of three higher education institutions from three different Erasmus+ programme countries.

The TEFE A+ BIP České Budějovice, implemented as part of the University of South Bohemia's 2023-1-CZ01-KA131-HED-000124019 project, connects, in addition to the University of South Bohemia, five other TEFE A+ universities: Aston University, Birmingham (UK), Comenius University in Bratislava (SK), Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest (HU), Public University of Navarra, Pamplona (SP), and University of Passau (GE). Launched virtually on 15th February, the programme introduced participants to the TEFE methodology, objectives, and programme details, enabling them to collaborate in international teams.

The main objectives of the BIP include:

• Strengthening inter-institutional cooperation at both central and faculty levels;
• Promoting international multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary programmes;
• Developing new courses in the form of combined mobilities;
• Introducing innovative teaching, training, and study methods;
• Offering modules or programmes in English that build on and enhance existing degree programmes.

Running as part of the three-year TEFE A+ project, the TEFE A+ BIP programme focuses on innovating and internationalising English language teacher education programmes. It is practically oriented and aims to increase the professional experience of future English teachers, with all training and collaboration conducted with the goal of establishing international teaching practice as a standard component of teacher education programmes.

The first TEFE A+ BIP was held under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, with subsequent editions to be hosted by the University of Passau (Germany) and the Public University of Navarra (Spain). The TEFE A+ BIP České Budějovice programme welcomed a total of 30 student teachers of English and teacher educators.

The programme's opening ceremony was attended by Vice Dean for Foreign Affairs, PhDr. Pavel Král, Ph.D., who introduced the Faculty of Arts and discussed current directions in foreign cooperation. This was followed by a detailed presentation of the BIP programme and the commencement of work activities in international working groups. The opening day concluded with a performance by the TEFE A+ music trio composed of Alena Prošková (violin), Matthias Fuchs (oboe), and Tomáš Jajtner (composition and piano).

Conducted at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia in a hybrid format, the entire BIP teaching programme was supported also by students of the TESOL study programme from Aston University and colleagues from partner TEFE universities. Participants explored key professional competences, their development, and self-assessment opportunities, focusing on Intercultural Communication Competence (ICC), Global Civic Competence (GCC), and Professional Teaching Competence for Internationalisation (PTCI).

An excursion to Třebon took place on Wednesday afternoon, providing participants with insights into the history and culture of South Bohemia. On Thursday, participants observed English language classes at selected schools in České Budějovice, attending a total of 15 lessons at six different schools followed by detailed group reflections led by colleagues from Aston University.

Special thanks are extended to the schools and to the teacher mentors who have facilitated the teaching sessions and over the past few years supported the idea of the TEFE project, contributing to the gradual development of international teaching practicums. Namely:

The final day of the programme, scheduled for 22nd March 2024, will feature group presentations developed as part of the "TEFE A+ Ambassadors Poster" activity and a final evaluation session led by Aston University, UK.

The Faculty of Arts have again placed on the top ranks of the survey carried out by the magazine TÝDEN.

The magazine TÝDEN introduces universities and faculties that have performed the best in the mutual comparison on the basis of particular criteria, e.g. admission, quality of teaching and science (in terms of human resources), the number of RIV points that the university gains for scientific journals, publications, grants, and other scientific activities. The position of the university in international rankings CWUR, THE and CQ and the assessment by the National Office for Accreditation were also among important factors for the university evaluation.

On 28th September, the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice said goodbye to the 47 educationalists, teachers and student teachers who for nine days were participating in TEFE Intensive Study Programme. The Teachers of English for Future Europe (TEFE) is an EU Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project of which the successful project application was led by staff from the Institute of English Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of South Bohemia. In 2020, the project was awarded a grant of 285,199 EUR.

The aim of the TEFE Intensive Study Programme was three-pronged in

• Looking to establish long-term relationships across the partner universities to enable the creation of high-quality English language teaching practice placements.
• Enable student teachers to experience internationalisation at its most intense and enable educators to draw up a blueprint of how to replicate this in EU partner universities.
• Continuing to equip students with the competences, skills, attitudes and values needed for them to develop a professional teacher identity and the ability to work anywhere in the EU.

The work of the last 9 days has informed the internationalisation and employability frameworks that the TEFE partners are developing jointly, and which will be one of the key legacies of the programme.

It would have been impossible to undertake a project of this scope and complexity without the support and involvement of a number of local teaching institutions who provided the opportunities for TEFE participants to observe live teaching in the classroom.

Dr Alena Prošková – one of the University of South Bohemia TEFE project leaders – added, “It was inspiring to see the transformation of the project as an initial idea on paper to a living reality in the classroom. The students were wonderful and the ways in which they absorbed the learning from their experiences was impressive”.

Finally, the Intensive Study Programme in České Budějovice must not be viewed as an end in itself but rather the beginning of year 2 of the TEFE project. The current students as part of the TEFE Ambassadors network have in their trans-national groups planned a short project which they will deliver over the next 3 months. They will use the www.tefe.online COIL platform, a tool developed by the project, to facilitate communication and ongoing collaboration on the web. We look forward to finding out what our TEFE pioneers create.

On October 12, 2022, the results of the next edition of one of the most prestigious world rankings 'The Times Higher Education World University Rankings' were published, in which the University of South Bohemia was again ranked among the best. Out of a record number of ranked universities from more than 104 countries, the University of South Bohemia was ranked 801st–1000th overall, thus defending its ranking from the previous year.

Among Czech universities, the University of South Bohemia improved year-on-year, taking a great shared 2nd place with Masaryk University. In total, 18 universities from the Czech Republic were ranked in the 'World University Rankings 2023', but only 3 Czech universities made it into the top 1 000. 'We should especially thank the staff of our university for the results in the THE rankings, it is their hard work that makes them - also in this way - visible to the wider public,' comments the Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Prof. Bohumil Jiroušek, PhD.

The universities were again evaluated in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings on the basis of 13 calibrated performance indicators, which are grouped into five thematic groups comparing their achievements in the areas of education, research, citations, knowledge transfer and internationalisation. In all these areas, the University of South Bohemia improved year-on-year, with the greatest improvement in the number of citations and citation rate in general. 'I am glad that we are doing top-quality science that is noticed by researchers from all over the world. I believe that we can continue this trend, the ranking is of course a motivation for the coming years,' added Professor Bohumil Jiroušek, Rector of the University of South Bohemia.

In recent years, the University has been doing well not only in this global ranking, but also in regional rankings (The Times Higher Education Emerging Economy University Rankings), the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, and some disciplinary rankings. The high level of the University of South Bohemia is also confirmed by other recognised world university rankings. After the excellent ranking in the 'QS World University Rankings' (shared 701st–750th place), this is also the case, for example, in the current ranking of 'ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities 2022' (ARWU), where the University of South Bohemia is also ranked in the top 1 000 out of more than 2 500 ranked universities.

The fact that the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice is not only a modern educational institution but also an important centre of science and research in South Bohemia is proven by another ranking, according to the 17+ Methodology. According to this method, the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice was the only university founded after 1989 to receive the highest possible grade A, i.e. excellent, in the international evaluation of science and research. Only 3 other universities, which are among the traditional 'brick-and-mortar' universities, have received this highest possible rating within the multidisciplinary universities.

V úterý 9. dubna 2024 proběhlo na půdě Filozofické fakulty Jihočeské univerzity již třetí setkání učitelů dějepisu ze základních a středních škol Jihočeského kraje. Kromě více než třiceti pedagogů se akce pořádané Historickým ústavem účastnily také dvě desítky studentů učitelství dějepisu magisterského studia. Ústředním tématem letošního roku byly moderní trendy v dějepisném vzdělávání. Po úvodním slovu děkana Filozofické fakulty prof. PhDr. Ondřeje Peška, Ph.D., a ředitele Historického ústavu prof. PhDr. Václava Bůžka, CSc., zahájil didaktickou sekci Mgr. Jaroslav Pinkas, Ph.D., který přednesl zajímavý příspěvek Jak se píše učebnice dějepisu. Prezentaci příkladů dobré praxe a tandemové výuky představily Mgr. Veronika Zasadilová a Mgr. Barbora Šedivá ze Základní školy Fantova v Kaplici. O nedostatcích badatelské učebnice dějepisu pojednal doc. PhDr. et Dr. phil. Ivo Cerman, Ph.D. Tradiční závěr didaktické části obstarala praktická ukázka badatelské lekce, věnovaná tématu legitimity politického násilí a moderovaná Mgr. Jaroslavem Králem. Příjemné setkání završila odpolední přednáška PhDr. Jiřího Suka, Ph.D., DSc., z Ústavu pro soudobé dějiny Akademie věd České republiky, která se uskutečnila v zaplněné posluchárně P1 a ukázala, jakým způsobem lze nahlížet na 17. listopad 1989 očima pamětníka i historika. Neustále rostoucí zájem pedagogů i studentů účastnit se setkání učitelů dějepisu je velkým příslibem i závazkem do dalších ročníků.
