The Institute of Archaeology at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice was founded 1st April 2006. From the beginning, it has been profiling as a scientific-pedagogical institute focusing on archaeology of prehistory, Middle Ages and Early Modern Era, as well as on environmental archaeology. At present it offers education in a three - year Bachelor's degree programme and in a two-year consecutive Master's Programme. The Institute now also offers a Doctoral programme in the field of Archaeology. In its scientific work, the Institute of Archaeology focuses mainly on research of the South Bohemian region in European context, on non-destructive archaeology and - in cooperation with the Faculty of Science at the University of South Bohemia - on environmental archaeology. The Institute's long-term projects include the study of the settlement of the Bronze Age near Bechyně, research of the early medieval fortification at Na Jánu in Netolice and research of medieval and modern period crafts.
